A FOUR-ton African elephant daintily rests her foot on a stool for a pedicure.

Keepers use a power grinder to trim the toenails of the 23-strong herd at Pairi Daiza Zoo, in Belgium.

Photographer Martine Cettour-Baron, 64, said of the jumbo beauty session: “They loved their pedicure.

“They put their feet on the stools all by themselves.

“The staff take such good care of them.

“When they had finished, they both happily wondered off to eat some hay."

A spokesperson for the zoo said: “All of our 23 elephants get a regular pedicure treatment.

“They need to clean them from time to time and give them a good scrub. This is a part of their routine."

Pairi Daiza is home to 23 elephants - the largest elephant herd in Europe.
